What is COVID-19 Coronavirus?
COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, is a virus that is transmitted from person to person between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). It is transmitted via respiratory droplets from an infected person when they cough or sneeze.
What can I do to help prevent COVID-19?
There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19 infection. However, you can take the following precautions to help prevent becoming infected:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 30 seconds.
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Avoid spreading the flu to others by covering your mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when you sneeze or cough.
Can I still travel?
If you’re travelling to an area where the COVID-19 virus has been detected do the following:
- Check for travel warnings with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT).
- Avoid direct contact with surfaces that have been contaminated with bird feces or secretions.
- Tell your doctor immediately if you become ill with flu-like symptoms during travel or within 10 days of returning from your trip.
